About

What started as a desire to learn how to grow food, expanded into a multi faceted exploration in health, agriculture, food distribution and sustainability. From this process Deepening Roots was established and our relationship with food, health and the environment was forever transformed.

Since 2005, faculty and volunteers have conducted Deepening Roots Summer Immersions and Weekend Workshops across North America and Europe. In 2011, a Facilitator Training program was introduced to train people how to teach the Weekend Workshop in their community. We have taken our collective experience in the garden, kitchen and classroom and refined it into a rich and lively curriculum, inspiring people to become active participants in our food system. Our definition of food system is: the cultivation, distribution and consumption of food.

You don’t have to be a farmer or chef or food advocate to be involved, the simple act of purchasing food and eating is an agricultural act that unites all of us.

The Deepening Roots curriculum reconnects us to our food system and illustrates ways to take responsibility for our own health. The intricate connections between sustainable agriculture, nutrient rich soil, nutrient rich food, healthy people, a vibrant community and a thriving environment are rich in diversity and significance. All of our programs explore these connections helping to inspire us to be active participants in our food system.
