Agriculture

As we move into an age without cheap fossil fuels we will need to design more local energy efficient food systems.  The Deepening Roots two day workshop provides insight into the challenges of our current industrial food system and inspires participants with the skills and confidence to implement change that involves direct involvement with their food i.e. supporting local sustainable farms and growing an edible landscape.  Participants will learn how to design low maintenance annual and perennial landscapes that can be established on any scale.  The design process includes understanding how to build healthy soil, garden design, starting seeds/transplanting, mulching and companion planting.

Health

Our industrial food system has supported what has commonly been coined the SAD diet because of its emphasis on processed unhealthy fats, salts and sugars.  We will look at the direct correlation between the industrial food system and the SAD diet and then focus our attention on wellness.  Where we look at essential elements to our diet that are often overlooked such as alkaline and acidic foods, the role of minerals and enzymes, the importance of chlorophyll and healthy fats and sugars… and then experience how we can incorporate these elements within our new localized food systems by spending time in the kitchen learning how to prepare simple and delicious recipes.

Community

Sustainable change will only happen if we work together in a supportive, creative and enthusiastic manner.  The two day workshop includes several processes that allow participants to support each other’s enthusiasm.  The workshop challenges people to work together and create solution based goals.
